Lyme Disease Treatment

Lyme disease is caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi, a spiral-shaped bacterium that enters the bloodstream after a bite from a deer tick (Ixodes). Much like syphilis, also a spirochete, Lyme burrows into the deepest areas of the body and is hard to get rid of. Sometimes antibiotics are the right medicine, but sometimes they drive Lyme deeper. This might produce a temporary remission, but it is not a cure. Many who suffer with Lyme already know that they must support their overall health, and antibiotics alone are not the final answer. Unfortunately, antibiotics also kill friendly bacteria, leaving the body more susceptible to infections and digestive problems.

“Homeopathy and naturopathic modalities treat the individual, not just the bacterium, and can increase a patient’s chance of success in overcoming Lyme and all of its manifestations,” says Jon Ritz, a doctor of naturopathic medicine. “There are several naturopathic approaches to treating Lyme including therapeutic herbal medicines, individualized homeopathic prescriptions and oxygen therapy. Alone, each of these treatments can be successful.  In combination, they are almost unstoppable.”

Dr. Jon Ritz is a naturopathic doctor treating patients in Lebanon and Kensington. Reach him at 860-281-7489. Ritz is member of ProNatural Physicians Group (ProNaturalPhysicians.com), a professional organization that supports and promotes naturopathic medicine.
